Michelle Ludwig previously practiced commercial sustainable interior architecture in the United States with the firms of Hellmuth, Obata+ Kassabaum (HOK) and William McDonough & Partners (WMP). Settled in South Africa since 2006, she has worked locally as a Project Architect before associating with PJCarew Consulting (PJC) green building consultants. Currently, she heads LDC and offers various green consulting services along with interior and architecture design services.
Her 19-year experience in 'green' has included sustainable design and management of commercial and institutional projects, building certifications, materials evaluation and research, universal design for persons with disabilities, consulting and educating for Green Building Council of SA, lecturing at University of Cape Town, School of Architecture and currently providing technical guidance to a new ecolabel.
She has utilised green building rating tools for over 13 years and has become very familiar with Green Star Tools in particular by helping them to develop and evolve. Further Green Star experience includes: teaching the Green Star AP course, contracted as an independent Assessor, invited to the Technical Advisory Group (TAG), Technical Working Group (TWG) for GreenStar SA Retail Centre and a peer-reviewer for the Multi-Unit Residential Tool. She currently teaches a half-day seminar on Green Commercial Interiors and is developing curriculum and courses for industry professionals.
Sow & Reap is a green building consultancy that specialises in energy modelling for Green Star, LEED, and SANS 10400XA amongst other expertise.
Francois Retief, the founder of Sow & Reap has extensive experience in the green building industry. A Mechanical Engineer by training, Francois has worked as a building services design engineer both in South Africa and the United Kingdom. This work saw him focusing on resource efficient building services solutions and building energy simulations. Francois was a part of the team at the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), developing and operating of a number of Green Building Rating Tools and Guidelines. Francois is also a Green Star SA Accredited Professional, GBCSA Faculty Member and Assessor.
